Cages do not allow animals to develop their natural behaviors, and they are also a health hazard for people.

How long will economic profit take precedence over the sustainability and safety of the food system?
300 million
This is the number of animals living in cages with hardly any freedom of movement in Europe.
The country with the most cages
Spain is the European country with the most caged animals: 92 million.
There are already cage-free countries
Countries such as Austria and Germany have banned cages for laying hens.

In such confined spaces, rabbits cannot develop natural behaviors such as running, jumping or gnawing. In addition, Spain is the country that has the most rabbits in cages in the entire EU.

Sows, in macro-farms, live a good part of their lives in cages that are only a few centimeters larger than their body size. In the wild, these animals spend more than half their day looking for food, rooting and grazing, activities that are impossible to carry out in such a small space. Spain is also the country with the most sows in cages in the EU.

Hens live their entire lives crammed into a space little bigger than a sheet of paper, unable to stretch out or indulge in their natural behaviors, such as digging in the ground or taking sand baths.
"Animal welfare is a key component of a sustainable food chain."
